Welcome to The Sex Positive Podcast!
A very exciting project is now 3 years and going strong !

As a social worker since 2005, I noticed the lack of discussion about open sexual and/or gender identity throughout my career part of any medical assessment or therapeutic approach. Working with individuals from all walks of life, many of which are being treated for mental health issues and other physical illnesses, there never was any questioning of sexual health or sexual need, sexual identity perhaps part of ‘a screening tool’. It was always ‘unsaid’ and assumed, ‘we don’t go there as health care professionals’.
I began to question why is this happening. Why are we ignoring a huge aspect of being human– and one that can be very pleasurable, connecting and sometimes even spiritual.
As well, many clients reported sexual side effects of anti depressant medications, decline in libido, desire and interest, with no one to talk to about these issues.
While completing my graduate work at the University of Windsor and working as a research assistant part of the Enhanced AAA Sexual Assault Prevention Program with Dr. Charlene Senn, the research was showing most people are sexually assaulted before high school. Any programming in high school health class was missing a huge group of kids and protecting them from unwanted touching or assault. And statistically that is 1 in 4 and this does not even capture the communities which are not researched or the under reporting of such events or people who do not seek support out of shame, guilt, self blame or secrecy to ‘keep the peace’.
I realized the need to normalize conversations about sexuality and this is a global cultural issue. Like many topics in our society, we don’t openly discuss out of fear of shame, guilt or pain. Many experience sex out from participation, social media images or pornography, without context, tools or support. And the more I unpacked these conversations from my clients, I also realized with the high prevalence of trauma, sexual assault by family, friends, partners and acquaintances.
We need sexual education for prevention at a very early age, naming body parts with scientific names, early conversations about body autonomy and consent culture in our parenting styles. We need open and free access for trauma therapy for healing. And a global, current, informed, age appropriate model of sexual health education for empowerment.
It is essential to break down barriers by talking about issues of stigma, taboo along with intersections of sex, gender, sexual orientation, culture, race, ethnicity, education, dis/ability, economics, media and religion — all influence our attitudes and beliefs about sexuality. And in order to address some of these challenges to accessing quality sexual health education, we need to have access to evidence based scientific information.
So here I am. I wanted to create a free and accessible positive sexual health and education podcast. One of advocacy and equitable access to equality education. This is now essential step towards empowerment and healing for many who may not have equitable. It has been a long standing goal to put together a podcast with quality sexual health education for all ages, stages and life transitions. I wanted to build a space that was sex positive education, inclusive to all humans, with a focus on consent culture, age appropriate learning and building healthy sexual relationships with oneself and others.
From access to healthcare or education, to supporting parents growing with their kids, sexuality through the lifespan, open gender affirming introductions about gender pronouns and preferred names– I feel there is ALOT of work to do. And that is why I need your help sharing and talking about some of the topics, challenges and issues I bring up in the podcast.
In each episode, I plan to promote a sex positive safe space to share information and access resources. I also want to remove the cis hetero normative lens on most sexual education platforms–which in my experience are in the context of solely monogamous relationships.
If you are interested in learning more about yourself and others, stay tuned! I want to have open discussions and building your capacity to have casual and easy conversations about sex, gender and a multitude of relationship connections as human beings. I want to break through any shame or guilt, embarrassment or fear to talk about these human needs for connection and exploration.
